Tailei Qi is a suspect in a shooting incident at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill which led to the demise of a faculty member in a science building at the University on Monday.
According to the information gathered, he allegedly shot and killed the said faculty member whose identity hasn’t been given in broad daylight and then hid on the campus.
As it stands, officials have not pinpointed a motive for his alleged actions, however, a series of posts on his Twitter page shows how frustrated, stressed and depressed the suspect has been since 2022.
In most of his posts, he talked about conflict with other students and his Principal investigator (“PI”). A Principal investigator is usually a faculty member assigned by the university to work with students on research projects. It is, however, not clear whether the said PI is the faculty member who was killed.

Qi is a graduate student in applied physical sciences. He is currently in the police and as of Monday evening, formal charges are pending.
