Khabib Nurmagomedov officially retired from MMA for good in October 2020 having never tasted defeat after defeating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254.
In 29 professional bouts, the Russian never even so much as suffered a scratch let alone tasted a loss - but his amateur career was not as unblemished.
At the age of 17, Khabib was defeated in a Russian Combat Sambo final by Magomed Ibragimov.
Having wrestled since his formative years, Khabib took up judo at the age of 15 and learned the ways of Sambo thanks to his late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.
Although he was a phenomenal talent and a tremendously gifted athlete, the teenager met his match in the form of Ibragimov.
In fact, the bout almost became too heated as the two men even traded punches.
Unfortunately, it was not to be for Khabib as the result was confirmed as his first ever defeat – prompting the Dagestan native to slump to the floor and cry.
Ibragimov, who would go on to win bronze medals at the 2016 Olympics and 2018 Asian Games, showed grace and decorum and helped the youngster to his feet to console him.
Despite Dana White’s best efforts, the UFC have been unable to convince the now 32-year-old Khabib to make a return to the octagon and the former lightweight champion has even teased a move into professional football.
